To develop and realize Hybrid PCBs for space applications through indigenous vendors

A Hybrid Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is a multilayer PCB that combines dissimilar materials to optimize electrical performance, improve system reliability, and enhance high-frequency RF applications. These PCBs utilize materials with significantly different critical properties compared to traditional multilayer PCBs. Hybrid PCBs may incorporate a mix of FR-4 materials with high-frequency PTFE materials, or use a combination of various high-frequency materials with different dielectric constants in a single multilayer board.

Hybrid PCBs enable the integration of a wide range of electronic circuits, making them ideal for advanced applications. This proposal aims to develop indigenous vendors for the realization of space-grade Hybrid Multilayer PCBs.

Salient Features of Hybrid PCBs:

  1. Integration of RF and high-frequency digital circuits onto a single PCB.
  2. Reduction in the overall electronics package size.
  3. Elimination or reduction of cables and wiring harnesses.
  4. Improved electrical performance with integrated EMI shielding.
  5. Enhanced thermal paths for better heat dissipation.
  6. Use of FR-4 for increased rigidity and easier component assembly.
  7. Enhanced reliability in challenging environments.
  8. Cost-effective: Hybrid PCBs are more affordable than using multiple conventional PCBs and related hardware.

Scope of Work:
The vendor will be responsible for fabricating and supplying multilayer boards, combining high Tg FR4 layers with other layers of high-frequency PTFE or hydrocarbon laminates. To qualify for space applications, the vendor must fabricate test samples for qualification in accordance with ISRO-PAX-304. SAC/ISRO will provide the pattern for the qualification samples and test coupons.

SAC/ISRO will perform qualification testing. Upon successful completion of the tests, the vendor will be certified as a qualified supplier of Hybrid MLBs for space use.
